UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE ACCESS COALITION (UHAC)

The Universal Healthcare Access Coalition (UHAC), an unprecedented collaboration among the majority of health professional and health worker representative associations, patient advocacy groups and related constituencies, has unveiled its vision for healthcare in South Africa that fulfils the constitutional entitlement of all in our country to full access to all necessary healthcare without impediment.

This vision has inspired the Coalition to develop a healthcare reform framework to achieve this vision by addressing the evident governance, management and market failures in the public and private health systems and which utilises all of SA’s health assets in a consensus-driven process of integration.

The proposed reform pathway is evidence-based, pragmatic and has been developed over the almost two decades long stagnation of meaningful state policy reform. The framework outlines a set of practical solutions to actualise access, equity and uniform high quality service in the country’s healthcare system while ensuring financial sustainability and which can be implemented in the currently constrained fiscal conditions.
